Haiku: Toilet Paper Toy

This one probably needs very little explanation, except the clarification that the puppy was out of our lines of sight for moments, then there was the terrible realization that it was too quiet, followed by the discovery. What is the deal with animals and toilet paper?? Cats tear it off the roll, dogs chew it up. It must put out a vibe that people just can’t appreciate.

The worst part: she knew she wasn’t supposed to have touched the toilet paper – it was clear from her body language. But it was already too late, of course. Guess we’ll keep working on it…and try to salvage what we can of that roll.

Haiku: Foggy Farm Morning

After some very weird weather – precipitous temperature drops, pounding rain, even snow yesterday – fog has arrived. It’s “thick as pea soup” fog, with little visibility. What lurks out there? Giant genetically-engineered insectile monsters, à la “The Mist”? Probably not, but it does engage the imagination!

Haiku: Willful Alliteration

I was outside recently and an odd iridescence on the concrete of the patio caught my eye. Investigating it further, I discovered that it was a slug trail – something arguably quotidian, yet striking. Sadly, the photo doesn’t quite capture the trail’s true brilliance in the sunlight, but I saw it. And marveled.

Haiku: Vibrant Violets

The farm flowers are blooming, providing plentiful inspiration for verse. I am particularly fond of the demure, diminutive blue violets – they’re such a lovely pop of color against the dark greenery. Not just beautiful to behold, violets also have a number of health benefits…and they make a gorgeous syrup!

Haiku: Spring(ing) Spiders

On a very-recent potty break, our puppy startled a jumping spider that lives in the door jamb. It hunkered down against the aggregate porch and nearly disappeared. Clever!

These spiders reappear in spring, and one on the other side of the window provided the opportunity for a photo that I wouldn’t otherwise have had. It was close enough that I could see its eyes. It was a magnificent specimen, and I hope it catches many stink bugs and flies (which have also reappeared).
