Summer calls for Skeeter Pee: crisp, clean, and citrusy. Ever since I made our first batch of Skeeter Pee and realized what a delightful hot weather libation it is, I’ve been pondering variations on that theme: what other flavors could be incorporated into the basic Skeeter Pee recipe for enjoyable results? The motivation for the second version of the beverage was having a couple of bottles of lime juice sitting in the fridge…so why not lemon-lime this time?

Kefir Madness: Hot Weather Means Lots Of Water Kefir

It’s hot here. Worse than the heat, the humidity is oppressive…it’s like a steamy blanket that envelops you as soon as you step out into it. When it’s this humid, it’s very easy to become overheated quickly because the body’s evaporative cooling system is less effective, so people who work outdoors (like farmers) can become dehydrated without even realizing it. Water is definitely a must on hot days, but I think the best – and arguably the tastiest – thirst quencher is probiotic water kefir!

Winecraft: Daylily #2

The daylilies just keep coming, bursting forth with their irrepressible cheeriness each morning, truly living in the moment…each bloom has just a single day in the sun, so they make it a glorious one! I had to try to capture that exuberance in a bottle, hoping to honor it by making a truly special, ephemeral wine: a wine that would remind me of the hot days of summer with each sip.
