It’s hatching day here on the farm and we have chicks working on emerging from the confines of their eggs. For me, hatching is always fun, gratifying, and a little stressful…but, in the end, definitely worthwhile.

Every so often, one of the ladies lays a strange egg – unusually shaped, colored, or, like this one, sized. It’s just a reproductive quirk, but fairy eggs are always fun to find and this one was ready for an adventure around the farm!

The calendar may say that there’s still another week and a half until spring arrives, but the poultry say otherwise: the first goose eggs of the season were in the coop this morning. Along with those enormous beauties, the ducks left five of theirs, and I also collected two early-morning chicken eggs. Hooray for spring’s bounty!
