Not long ago, I saw an unassuming black and brown caterpillar making its way along a garage door. I knew that wasn’t a good place for it, so I moved it away, into a clump of clover. I didn’t expect to see it again, but it reappeared and hung around…literally.

Around The Farm: Volunteers And Transformers
I’ve been planning a garden for the last couple of years, but have yet to actually set up the raised beds…despite having the lumber to do it. Why? It seems that other projects (interests?) always get in the way and, before I know it, it’s too late in the year to begin. Thankfully, volunteers have been allowing me to practice a bit this year!

Around The Farm: Rainfall
The forecasted storms have rolled in. We got a brief drenching yesterday afternoon, it definitely rained overnight, and the rain ramped up again this morning. Walking out in the downpour to shut the chicken coop door reminded me why rain is so important, in ways we take for granted.
Around The Farm: Woolly Bear Sighting
Not that kind of bear – a Woolly Bear caterpillar, the larval form of the Isabella Tiger Moth. The fast-moving orange and black fuzzies appear at this time of year, often crossing roadways. Legend has it that they can predict the severity of the coming winter, too!
