Haiku: Morning Walk

The light was really striking this morning during our walk. It was in the 50’s when we were out, quite a change from the recent frigid temps brought by the polar vortex. It may be unseasonably warm, but this weather is definitely conducive to getting outdoors!

Slow Food: Vegan Chana Masala

Happy National Slow Cooking Month! But why restrict it to a month? I say it should be the year of slow cooking! Using a slow cooker is about as easy as it gets, and cooking low and slow can transform mundane ingredients into culinary delights. Slow cookers really shine when making soups and stews, and I frequently make chili in mine. Recently, I ran across a recipe for a vegan Chana Masala, and had to try making it in my Crock Pot!

Farm Ferments: Just Junk-Free Jalapeños

Earlier, we shared how we discovered that the pickled jalapeños we’d purchased were, to our chagrin, full of additives and preservatives. After disposing of them (and recycling the jars – would have kept them, had they been glass), we became acutely aware that we no longer had any of those delicious pops of spice that livened up dishes so well. What to do? Get some jalapeños and ferment them!
