Hatch Day: The Bobbleheads Are Here!

13 April 20228 June 2022 ~ Carrie

The goslings started externally pipping yesterday (day 29), signaling that hatching was imminent. It’s technically hatch day – day 30 – for the Pilgrims, but a “normal” hatch may begin a couple of days earlier or a couple of days later. Incubation Update: Pipping Like Popcorn

12 April 20228 June 2022 ~ Carrie

Early this morning, I checked on the Pilgrim goose eggs in the hatcher – and saw external pips. It’s day 29 of incubation, and the goslings are right on track to hatch over the next couple of days. The season’s first goslings are nearly here!

It’s a momentous day here on the farm: the geese have laid their first eggs of the season! I always enjoy finding first eggs, whether from a new or resuming layer. And I really enjoy finding a surprise, like I did this morning.

In The Incubator: Last Gosling Hatch Of 2021

8 July 2021 ~ Carrie
Almost there!

It’s finally hatching day for the last Pilgrim eggs of the season! While hatching day is exciting regardless of when it occurs during the year, this hatch is particularly poignant because, after this, there will be no more goslings until next spring. That’s a long wait.
