Haiku: Sinister Sinuousness (Snow Series #5)

Isn’t it strange how, at times, you might spy something from the corner of your eye – an ordinary object or scene – but it evokes an unexpected response? These coils of hose have been sitting in this spot (clearly not very useful in the snow) and haven’t particularly inspiring…until now. I’ll steer clear of this nest during the darker hours.

The transformative power of snow is at work once again, turning the mundane magnificent. With a liberal powdering of snow, even a dry, brown leaf is renewed…and perhaps a bit of my spirit, as well. May you also find the ordinary beauty around you and luxuriate in it.

Haiku: Under Cover Of Darkness (Snow Series #3)

Wild rabbits had clearly been out and about after dusk last night, leaving their traces around the main chicken coop, around the barn, and through the pastures. Their prints are distinctive and, if you didn’t know what creature had left them, they might leave you puzzled. This time of year, I don’t see them during daylight hours, so it’s good to know they’re still around!

Haiku: Optimistically Obscured

Temperatures have been bouncing up and down here, and the last vestiges of snow have been shrinking from the approaching sun. This tiny pile of ice crystals was in a shaded alcove on the exterior of the chicken coop, looking as though it was doing its best to hide. Unfortunately, I don’t think it was successful.

Haiku: Surrounded By Snow

This was, for me, today’s reminder of resilience: overnight snow and frigid temperatures may have battered the dandelion, furling its tender petals, but I know I’ll see its cheery countenance once again. Further, I know many other blooms lie covered in snow, just waiting for the sun’s restorative touch. We may see Nature as – at times – shockingly harsh, but for natural creatures like plants and animals it simply is…and they don’t have a choice about rising to the challenge of survival. Resilience.
