If you’ve clicked on a link in one of our blog posts to a wine recipe and found that it no longer works, it’s likely because it was one of Jack Keller’s recipes. He passed away in September 2020, and it appears that his winemaking website is no longer being maintained. An archive may be found here.
Though it may not contain all of the information and recipes from his active website, The Susquehanna Winemakers Guild has published a compilation of his recipes. It is voluminous…and appreciated (by many winemakers, not just me).
Jack’s passing is a reminder of one of the problems with the internet as a repository for information: someone has to maintain it. And if a website like his is no longer updated, it’s no longer the same treasure trove. When I explored the archived website, it looked as if some recipes and the robust search functionality that were previously part of his active site were missing.
Though I never had the opportunity to meet him, I valued his deep knowledge of winemaking and his generosity in sharing what he knew with the world. Wherever he may be, I hope he’s enjoying a fine glass of homemade wine. Here’s to you, Jack! 🍷
