Even though today is an unseasonably warm one, we’ve had several cold snaps lately that have caused temperatures to plummet below freezing. The plants have reacted accordingly: many simply dying on the vine, others becoming dormant. The colorful flowers of summer have all but disappeared…almost.
Just as I was preparing for the austerity of winter, the return of warmer weather – it’s 67F here right now – has encouraged resilient little plants like this dandelion to pop their bright faces up from the leaf cover that the strong winds have piled up all around them. This particular dandelion appears to have sustained cold damage, sporting some shriveled petals; regardless, its beauty is transcendent – its scars simply the hard-won badges of a survivor.
Flowers are still there – a bit more difficult to find, but worth looking for.
